In estate le punture di medusa sono uno degli incidenti più comuni. Ma per non farsi trovare impreparati qual’è il modo migliore per intervenire e quali sono gli errori da non commettere?
Diciamolo subito: l’urina non ha alcun effetto sulle punture delle meduse. Ci sono altri rimedi decisamente più scientifici e funzionanti per poter interrompere il dolore. Le meduse rilasciano una sostanza estremamente urticante, per questo sentiamo immediatamente una sensazione di bruciore: i capillari si dilatano, la pelle diventa subito rossa e si formano delle bolle. Tutto avviene in una manciata di minuti dal contatto e nel giro di un giorno le bolle si gonfiano fino a rompersi e diventare poi delle croste. Il dolore di una lesione causata dal contatto con una medusa può durare da alcune ore a diversi giorni.
Cosa può provocare il contatto con una medusa?
Oltre al bruciore, il rischio più grande è che le bruciature di medusa lascino dei segni permanenti: Il veleno è in grado di penetrare velocemente e in profondità nella pelle. E se non lo blocchiamo in tempo e lo lasciamo penetrare troppo a fondo, è in grado di causare un’infiammazione molto potente, che può distruggere le cellule. E di conseguenza nei giorni e nelle settimane successive, cadute le croste, resteranno cicatrici e macchie, spesso permanenti. Una reazione simile a quella che avviene in seguito a un’ustione.
Rimuovere il veleno delle meduse dalla pelle
Il più grande errore che possiamo commettere subito dopo il contatto con una medusa è pulire la ferita con acqua dolce: “Il veleno della medusa, quella caratteristica sostanza gelatinosa, è piena di acqua di mare e se ci facciamo una doccia di acqua dolce, per il processo di osmosi l’acqua salata del veleno attirerà a sé l’acqua dolce, la gelatina si gonfierà e il veleno si espanderà ancora di più nella pelle”. Meglio iniziare subito il trattamento rimuovendo la sostanza gelatinosa esercitando una leggera pressione ad esempio con una carta di credito o con la lama di un coltello (lato non tagliente). Si può sciacquare la parte con acqua di mare e una volta ripulita la parte è importante immediatamente applicare una crema lenitiva.
Le più efficaci sono quelle a base di cortisone, che è in grado di bloccare il processo infiammatorio. Non lesinate sulla crema: se vi ha punto una medusa, spalmatene un’abbondante quantità sulla zona ferita. Prima si fa quest’operazione, prima l’infiammazione verrà bloccata e minor danno si avrà. Allo stesso tempo potrebbe essere molto utile usare delle borse del ghiaccio: Il ghiaccio chiude i vasi capillari e aiuta a fermare l’avanzare dell’infiammazione.
Cosa fare i giorni dopo la puntura
Molta attenzione deve essere posta anche nei giorni successivi alla puntura. “Se vediamo che le bolle si stanno riempiendo di pus vuol dire che la ferita si sta infettando. In questo caso allora meglio mettere anche delle creme antibiotiche”. Se invece non c’è il pus nell’arco di un paio di giorni si formeranno le croste, che se tenute ben asciutte, entro 10-15 giorni al massimo cadranno da sole. E infine un ultimo sacrificio: Anche se può essere davvero difficile è molto importante evitare di stare al mare o stare troppo tempo esposti al sole. Dopo una puntura di medusa, importante è meglio restare qualche giorno al fresco.
