I nei sono delle formazioni cutanee derivate dalla concentrazione nella pelle di cellule di pigmento chiamate melanociti. Possono essere presenti fin dalla nostra nascita oppure svilupparsi nel corso degli anni mantenendosi più o meno costanti nella loro forma e colore. E’dunque fondamentale tenerli sempre sottocontrollo. E’possibile che in alcuni casi ci sia l’esigenza di rimuovere uno o più nei nel momento in cui vi sono dei segni che indicano un potenziale sviluppo di una neoplasia.
Può essere necessario togliere un neo anche quando si trova in una zona sottoposta a continuo sfregamento che può comportare ad una eventuale lacerazione del tessuto.
Un altro segnale che indica la necessità della rimozione del neo è quando vi sono, nel tempo, dei cambiamenti di aspetto. Questi infatti possono suggerirne un potenziale sviluppo “maligno”.
Per questo motivo è importante sottoporsi alla mappatura dei nei almeno ogni sei mesi. Esso è un esame diagnostico e non invasivo, che consente di monitorare il cambiamento nel colore, nella dimensione e nella forma dei nei presenti sul nostro corpo.

Se l’aspetto del neo ha subito variazioni è fondamentale recarsi subito dal dermatologo. Dopo un’accurata visita sarà possibile decidere sull’eventuale asportazione del neo e sugli esami istologici da fare per eventuali accertamenti.
Cosa comporta l’asportazione di un neo?
Togliere un neo è una procedura ambulatoriale che ormai risulta abbastanza semplice. Non vi è la necessità di rimanere in ambulatorio e si potrà tornare a casa subito dopo aver tolto il neo. Non è particolarmente doloroso in quanto si effettua una blanda anestesia locale. In base a quanto è profondo il neo si procede all’asportazione attraverso un bisturi e successivamente, ove necessario, a richiudere la ferita con dei punti.
